It is no secret that we are big on preventive dentistry around here, but, as it happens, Dr. Vice is also one of the area’s leading cosmetic dentists. That’s why Sunrise Dental offers professional smile makeover solutions at our Raleigh, Cary, Durham, and Chapel Hill locations.

So, if your teeth and gums could benefit from a little TLC, you owe it to yourself to visit one of our convenient NC offices. Keep reading to hear more about the possibilities and then get in touch with our creative and dynamic dental team to schedule your consultation.

Dental Bonding

If you have a few small flaws that don’t necessitate a big makeover plan, dental bonding might be just the thing for you. It is a cost-effective, quick, and easy solution. All we do is apply a layer of tooth-colored adhesive materials and smooth it over until you have a blemish-free smile. Easy enough, right?

Professional Teeth Whitening

Our professional whitening procedures can quickly brighten your outlook. Don’t waste your time and money with those over-the-counter DIY kits that expect you to manage the process with less-than-professional-grade materials.

Our safe and reliable methods involve using an ultra-strong bleaching agent that is applied in a custom mouthpiece. We currently offer Sinsational Smile®, a comfortable whitening system that can offer you a brighter, more beautiful smile in just 20 minutes! This great option is also only $99 right now! In addition, we offer Opalescence take-home whitening.

Invisalign Clear Aligner Orthodontics

Not a teenager any more? No problem! You can fix crooked, crowded, or gapped teeth at any age. The Invisalign clear aligner system that we use is far more comfortable than old-school braces. Plus, they are also removable, which makes eating more enjoyable, and cleaning a breeze. No dietary restrictions or weird tools will be required. And treatment can be completed in only about one year’s time.

Dental Veneers

If the years have been rough on your smile, our dental veneers are a great a catch-all solution. These thin coverings are made of porcelain and are used to cover up years of dental damage. Veneers get attached directly to the front of your teeth after a layer of enamel is removed. This removal is a minimally invasive step and simply ensures that they will be a good fit. When dental veneers are cemented to the front surfaces of your teeth, the porcelain material becomes extremely sturdy and resistant to damage.

Additionally, veneers are highly resistant to staining from coffee, tobacco, and other staining agents. If you are interested in hiding chips, cracks, stains, discoloration, misshapen teeth, or minor alignment issues, this option may be for you.

Reshaping & Recontouring

We can even correct an overly gummy smile with our laser gum reshaping therapy. This forward-looking laser system allows us to reshape your gum line involving less healing time, less discomfort, and a lot more precision than when it had to be done by hand. We can also recontour your teeth using the same laser technology.

Your Smile Makeover Awaits!

Preventive Dental Tips For The New Year! | North Carolina

$

This has been another great year at Sunrise Dental. We are so thankful for all the wonderful patients like you who have opted to partner with us on preventive dental care, and more.

Since this is the time for resolutions, we hope you will resolve to make your oral health needs a priority again in 2017. Here’s some good news: many dental insurance policies reboot with the calendar year, so there couldn’t be a better time to address the health and appearance of your teeth and gums.

To keep you on the good road, today, we’d like to share some tips that will keep you smiling all year long. Keep reading, and then be sure to follow up with our North Carolina team to arrange for your next appointment with Dr. Vice. We’ll give you plenty of reasons to smile!

Tip #1 Brush Your Teeth, Like You Mean It!

Let’s be honest: excellent oral health starts at home in front of the bathroom sink. And it requires a fair amount of perseverance and diligence on your part. The American Dental Association insists that you brush two or more times a day for two or more minutes at a stretch. Think about it: that is the very least you can do to ward off gum disease and tooth decay in your mouth.

Tip #2 Floss Daily!

Even with mindful brushing, you still won’t be able to get to all of the surfaces in your mouth where food, plaque, and other bad things can build up waiting to cause bigger trouble. The spaces between your teeth are especially hard to keep clean. By flossing daily now, you will save yourself much pain and expense down the road! No more excuses. Floss daily!

Tip #3 Find Some Fluoride!

Using fluoride is a great defense for your smile. It is contained in many mouthwashes and toothpastes, and your trusted NC dentist can even set you up with a more intensive fluoride treatment if need be. Be sure to read the labels for age-appropriateness.

Tip #4 Schedule Regular Trips To The Dentist

The thing to remember is that oral health requires a partnership. You can’t keep it up all by yourself. For one thing, you don’t have the training or access to the tools and technology that make the difference.

We know that you are busy. But it is always in your best interest to make time for us twice a year, at least. Why? Because when you visit our dentist’s office every 3-6 months, our team can provide you with professional teeth cleanings, gum disease evaluation, comprehensive checkups, diagnostic exams and cavity-prevention techniques. We can also screen for oral cancer and look for signs of other issues elsewhere in your body. While we do not consider ourselves pediatric specialists, we do see entire families. Children are welcome in our offices starting at about age 3. We can begin doing dental cleanings and offering fluoride varnishes at this age.

The Long-Term Benefits Of Short-Term Orthodontics | Cary, NC

Are you…

…tired of feeling self-conscious?

…ready to boost your confidence?

…looking to change the health and appearance of your smile for the better?

Then, we’ve got you covered at Sunrise Dental. And, with four convenient North Carolina locations (in Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh, and Cary), we’ll make it easy to get the care you’ve been craving. The method we have in mind is called Invisalign. Keep reading to hear all about it, and then be sure to follow up to schedule your consultation with Dr. Vice!

Invisalign Will Make You Smile

If you are an adult who has been plagued by crooked, overcrowded, or oddly gapped teeth, the time has come to finally improve your situation once and for all!

We can make it happen with a short-term orthodontic solution specifically designed with grown-ups in-mind. As such, you can bet that your treatment will be a non-invasive, pain-free, and more dignified experience than you would have encountered back in your middle school days.

After all, nobody in your position wants to endure metal brackets and wires for 2-3 years, just to straighten out problematic teeth.

We are confident that you will be pleased by all that Invisalign can accomplish while sparing you the usual insults and injuries (so to speak) that are part and parcel of traditional orthodontic treatments.

Invisalign Is Different

It won’t be long before Invisalign makes you forget everything you remember about braces from your teenage years. That’s because this modern method of moving teeth was created in response to all the usual complaints about conventional braces.

Invisalign “clear braces” navigate a new and different route to the same destination by shifting your teeth through a series of transitional stages, each one getting you closer to your desired results.

We will first map out your treatment schedule so we will all know exactly what to expect at each step along the way.

Using these detailed images of your mouth, our team will design a succession of clear plastic aligners that you will then swap out every two weeks on your own to keep the realignment moving along according to our master plan. There won’t be any inconvenient (and painful) in-office tune-ups required!

Rather than the stark metal wires and brackets your friends had to wear, you will be fitted with Invisalign aligners that are made of a high-grade polyurethane. This material is gentle on your gums, cheeks and tongue, and nearly invisible to any onlookers.

For many, the best feature of Invisalign is that these smooth, comfortable aligners are also made to be removable. You won’t be harnessed with orthodontic gear in your mouth 24/7 while this transformative treatment is carried out.

They can be popped out at dinner time, and for basic cleaning purposes. As t happens, you just rinse them under warm water and pop them back in. There won’t be any weird tools or brushes required for maintenance because no food will get stuck in your hardware. That means you also will get to continue eating the foods that you love!

Another advantage of this treatment is that Invisalign aligners can also perform double-duty as a mouth guard, if you are in a position that could benefit from such an arrangement. If you are in the habit of grinding your teeth or clenching your jaws, Invisalign aligners can protect your teeth from excessive wear, while they are crafting the smile you’ve always wanted.

In the end, your total treatment time will only be about 12 months, depending on your situation when we get started. That is much, much better than 2-3 long years of wearing classic braces!

The team here at Sunrise Dental is dedicated to helping you get the highest quality care in a comfortable, friendly environment. Because our North Carolina dentist’s office serves patients of all ages, we are confident that we can help you get the treatment you need regardless of your stage in life. For instance, whether you are all grown up or still in your teen years, there is a way for Dr. Vice to realign your smile that is easy and fast (as far as orthodontic solutions go). It’s called Invisalign, and we are proud to be able to provide it at all of our convenient locations (Cary, Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill).

In today’s post, we will explore some of the reasons why many folks prefer this method to the more grueling approaches that used to dominate the field of orthodontics. Keep reading and then be sure to get in touch with our team to set up your Invisalign consultation in 2017.

Invisalign Is Fast, Safe, Easy, & Effective

Let’s set the record straight: Invisalign won’t require you to wear metal wires and brackets. It achieves the results you desire simply by using a series of clear plastic aligners. None of your friends or coworkers will ever have to know that you are wearing these “braces.”

In order to keep things moving forward, you will just have to switch the aligner trays out every two weeks at home, which saves you the hassle of requesting time away from work to get your monthly orthodontic adjustments at the dentist’s office.

Get this: you will also be able to eat all of the foods you love, whenever you want. Your aligners don’t trap food like their metal counterparts, but beyond that, they are actually removable. You can take a break whenever it is convenient, like at dinner time or for cleaning purposes, or when the cameras come out.

As for cleaning, there won’t be any special tools necessary. You can just pop out your Invisalign aligners for a quick rinse under lukewarm water. You will still need to do your regular home hygiene routine so that your mouth stays fresh, healthy, and clean during your treatment.

It is no secret that old-school braces will often cut your mouth and cause sores and all sorts of other pain for the 2-3 years you are required to wear them. The good news is that there won’t be any of that kind of pain and suffering with Invisalign. The aligners fit snugly and are actually quite comfortable. Besides, the treatment can be completed in a matter of months (usually about 12), so you won’t have to wait and wait just to enjoy the great results.

In 2017, wouldn’t it be awesome to put those annoying dental issues behind you once and for all? You know it would!

In any event, as you narrow your search, there are some questions you ought to be asking about your potential partner in oral health. That will be our blog focus for today. Keep reading, and then be sure to reach out with any questions or to schedule your next dental appointment with us!

Does The Office Care Enough To Invest In Tools, Training, & Technology?

You will want to be sure you are dealing with a dental team that has the necessary skills, education and hands-on experience to deliver the kind of care you deserve. After all, YOU are worth it! You will find that we have studied extensively and have amassed countless chairside hours. Plus, we are always willing to incorporate new techniques and technologies as they become available.

Is The Atmosphere Comfortable, Modern, & Welcoming?

From the minute you walk through the front door, you should feel recognized and valued at your dentist’s office! The faces of the staff and the overall feel of the place will tell you all that you need to know.

At Sunrise Dental we go well above the customary courtesies to make sure each and every patient knows that we see them as special and worthy of our respect. You will never be made to feel like just another name on a chart. At each one of our locations, we offer at least one semi-private operatory at the end of the hall for use with patients who are anxious or require a greater level of privacy.

If you are experiencing any dental anxiety or phobias, you will definitely want to find a dentist with sedation options available for your family. It can make a big difference in your quality of care, and your ability to come in and get it.

Even if you don’t currently suffer from any dental phobias, sedation dentistry can still help you get the care you need. You just never know when you may need to go through a complex procedure. At Sunrise Dental, our preferred method of sedation is using nitrous oxide or a combination of nitrous oxide and oral sedation.

Do They Do More Than Clean Teeth?

Your family is not just looking for a place that can clean your teeth twice a year. You are probably looking for a place that does it all under one convenient roof!

We can certainly address a variety of needs here. At Sunrise Dental we deliver basic preventive care, complex rehabilitative dentistry services, dental implants, cosmetic dentistry and sedation. How many dentist’s offices in North Carolina can say that?

Are They Accepting New Patients?

This is an important question. But you can bet we want you business and an opportunity to earn your trust. If you are ready to take the next step towards a healthier, better-functioning mouth, we are ready for you! To get started, call one of our convenient NC locations today! Gum Disease Prevention & Treatment | Cary, NC

Gum disease will wreak havoc on your smile and put your overall health at risk. But we are committed to helping you prevent gum disease, or at any rate, to catch it early enough to make a difference. All you have to do is make sure you are taking care of your oral hygiene at home and visiting our North Carolina dentist’s office regularly. With locations in Chapel Hill, Cary, Raleigh, and Durham, we make it easy to get all the care you need at Sunrise Dental.

Keep reading to hear more about preventing gum disease and then be sure to get in touch to schedule your next appointment with Dr. Vice.

Gum Disease: Early Detection Is Key

Gum disease is caused by oral bacteria. Get this: before we even get our first baby teeth, our mouths are already loaded with that dangerous bacteria.

When that bacteria slips below your gumline, it will cause inflammation and infection. Your gums will turn red and you may start to notice that they bleed easily, particularly when you are brushing your teeth.

Here’s some good news: the earliest stages of gum disease, also called gingivitis, can be contained and reversed. Here’s some bad news: if you don’t give the dentist a chance to detect and diagnose it, it will be impossible for us to notice any unhealthy changes that need to be addressed.

Don’t Let It End Badly

Periodontal disease is the late stage of gum disease. It typically involves a lot of painful tooth loss. But, that won’t be all it does. Once that oral bacteria gets loose in your bloodstream, it can attack the rest of your body. Medical research has demonstrated a link between gum disease and certain respiratory issues, heart disease, and even cancer! You wouldn’t want to wait for that to happen.

Plus, after a certain point it becomes harder to treat gum disease with conservative measures. If your teeth do start loosening up and falling out, you will be looking at the added time and expense that dental implants or dentures will bring. We can save you from that!

Preventive Dental Care & Restorative Treatments

There are a few things that can help keep you on track. When you are at home, brush your teeth twice per day using a soft-bristled toothbrush with a small head. Floss once per day to remove any buildup in between your teeth. And maintain a healthy diet. These efforts will go a long way. Still, as we stated earlier, keeping up with your six month teeth cleanings and dental checkups is essential for preventing gum disease and cavities.

Dr. Vice can often treat early signs of gum disease just by helping you to better care for your teeth in between office visits. But for more intense cases we may need to perform a restorative treatment. Don’t worry, we definitely have some good options.

A Clean & Healthy Mouth Awaits!

We hope you have been inspired by today’s post. To get started, call one of our convenient NC locations today! Chapel Hill: 919-914-0844, Raleigh 919-578-9923, Durham: 919-213-9757 Cary: 919-902-5121!

This Dentist Can Restore Your Damaged Smile | Cary, NC

At our North Carolina dentist’s office (we have locations in Cary, Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill), we have the knowledge and the know-how to restore your smile following disease, decay, or some other unfortunate occurrence. All you have to do is schedule an appointment with Dr. Vice, our top restorative dentist, to address your dental needs. We’ll complete a comprehensive oral examination, and then help you choose the treatment plan that makes the most sense for your current predicament.

Our restorative dentistry treatments include: tooth-colored fillings, veneers, root canals, crowns and bridges, dental implants, and more. Read on for an overview, and then be sure to follow up with our Sunrise Dental team to arrange for your next visit to one of our four convenient locations.

Dental Implants

If you are missing teeth altogether, you’ll be missing out on life. So, you will want to let our restorative dentist help you take back your normal existence. Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that anchor replacement teeth. Often made of titanium or another biocompatible material, they are surgically placed in the socket of the jawbone and covered with a dental crown. Implants are a secure and permanent tooth replacement option that are sure to boost your health and appearance.

Dental Veneers

A veneer is a very thin tooth-colored shell that is bonded to the front of a tooth to improve its shape, size, color, and length. Veneers are usually thought of as a cosmetic procedure, but they are also used to protect a tooth that is chipped or cracked. It is worth looking into one of these procedures if your dental damage is not threatening your health.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Everyone is at risk for cavities, no matter how diligent you are about your home hygiene habits. For this procedure we will numb the affected tooth and create a small opening in it, getting rid of all of the decay in the cavity. Once the decay is removed, we will then fill the hole in with a composite resin.

It used to be that cavities were filled exclusively with a metal amalgam, which is very effective but looks out of place in your mouth and contains mercury, which is a concern for patients with metal allergies.

Nowadays, however, we can use tooth-colored composite resin fillings, which are much more attractive and perhaps safer to use than traditional metal fillings.

Root Canal Treatments

Here’s the thing: if tooth decay ever reaches the soft pulp of a tooth, a simple filling will not be enough to prevent infection and ensure that the health of the tooth can be restored. But we will be able to perform what is known as a root canal, which will rid the tooth of infection, replace the tooth’s pulp with an inert material, and seal it off again. At least you will know that your health has been restored when we are through with you.

Crowns, Bridges, & More

As you can imagine, many of our treatments are designed for specialized functions. Crowns, bridges, and dentures are restorative components that will help your mouth look, function, and feel like it would naturally, following tooth loss, a root canal, etc.

We’ll tell you all about your options, during your consultation.

Schedule Your Appointment At Sunrise Dental!

Contact Sunrise Dental today, where our friendly and knowledgeable dental staff will be more than willing to answer any questions you may have, and can help you set up a consultation or appointment with a restorative dentist at the Triangle-area office nearest you.

Sleep Apnea Can Lead To Poor Health | Durham, NC

$
0
0

You may not think that a dentist in North Carolina can help you with your sleep disorders. But at Sunrise Dental (with locations in Raleigh, Durham, Cary, and Chapel Hill) we have actually invested a lot of time and energy in figuring out how to best treat our patients that are suffering from obstructive sleep apnea.

Keep reading to hear more, and then be sure to follow up and schedule your sleep dentistry consultation with Dr. Vice.

Warning Signs

Many people want to know how they can be sure that they are dealing with sleep apnea issues. Here are some warning signs: you are repeatedly told by others that you snore like a freight train; you are constantly wiped out and can’t ever seem to get enough sleep; you wake up in the middle of the night gasping for breath; you wake up in the morning with a splitting headache; you wake up with a sore or dry throat; you are more irritable than usual at work and at play.

If any of that that sounds like you, it is essential that you seek a proper diagnosis and, of course, treatment for sleep apnea ASAP.

Why is it such a big deal? If left undiagnosed or untreated, this condition can trigger a stroke, bring about heart disease, and cause you to behave badly.

Sleep Apnea Uncovered

Here’s the deal: Central Sleep Apnea Disorder and Obstructive Sleep Apnea Disorder are the two main ways in which the condition manifests itself.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea is the one we see the most of at Sunrise Dental. It happens when your throat muscles relax to the point that they obstruct your airways. This leads to extended breaks in night-time breathing and typically forces you to suddenly wake up struggling for air.

The bad part is that, since your brain is busy all night keeping you alive, when you wake up in the morning, you won’t feel rested at all! This is not any way to live, and your body won’t tolerate it for very long. Fortunately, like we said, obstructed sleep apnea is something that we are able to treat effectively around here.

Sleep Apnea Treatment In NC

Here’s something you may not know: the American Academy of Sleep Medicine added oral appliances as a primary treatment option for patients with mild or moderate sleep apnea about 10 years ago. This was welcome news for many patients who have difficulty using a CPAP machine, and it gave dentists a real role in the solution to this obnoxious and potentially life-threatening problem.

To verify what is going on with you, we can help you arrange a sleep test to determine if you have sleep apnea or not. Once sleep apnea is diagnosed, we can then design a custom-built oral appliance just for you.

How does it work?

These appliances shift your jaw forward just enough to make a difference at bedtime. Wearing such a device will you allow you to continue to breathe normally throughout the night, and reduce your snoring, so you can get the deep sleep that you deserve without disrupting the entire house.

Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at Sunrise Dental! You’ve landed at exactly the right place, because we have the tools, training, and technology it takes to make you fall in love with your smile. Don’t worry, we can help you even if your teeth are crooked, crowded, or gapped, and even if your teenage years are only a distant memory.

In fact, we have a revolutionary method for transforming troubled teeth without using any metal whatsoever. It’s called Invisalign, and it will give you plenty to smile about. Keep reading to hear all about it, and then be sure to follow up with Dr. Vice to schedule your consultation.

Straight Talk About Crooked Teeth

We realize that it can be daunting to take the first step towards a better-looking smile, especially if you have been putting up with your orthodontic issues for longer than you’d care to admit. You may want to do something to improve your situation, but you may wonder if it is worth the hassle.

Well, we can tell you that it is worth it (in terms of both health and appearance), and there is very little hassle involved with Invisalign.

How Does It Work?

Somewhere along the way, you have surely encountered someone who has had to wear conventional metal braces replete with shiny brackets and wires. The first thing you may have noticed is THAT YOU NOTICED! After all, these treatment systems are hard to miss.

That won’t be an issue for you with Invisalign, because this technique relies on a series of clear (nearly invisible) plastic aligners that gradually move your teeth into proper position. They are extremely discreet, which means that you won’t have to put up with any questions or playful teasing from your peers.

Another thing you may have noticed about old-school braces is that they are stuck in someone’s mouth (without any break) for a good 2 or 3 years of treatment time. But that won’t be the case with Invisalign. As long as you are wearing them for the better part of every day, you can pop them out whenever you need to. This is especially handy at dinner time, because it means that you can eat whatever you want, whenever you want.

If you ever had a friend back in the day with ordinary braces, you may have noticed their ongoing absences for in-office orthodontic adjustments. But you will get to be fully present at work and wherever else you need to be because you make the progressive changes yourself simply by swapping out your aligners for the next set in the series.
There used to be specialized cleaning tools that wearers of traditional braces had to pack around. But with Invisalign, you won’t have to do that since you won’t be trapping food in your gear, and you can remove the aligners for a good rinsing at any time. Running the aligners under lukewarm water along with regular brushing and flossing, is all that you will need to do to keep your mouth clean.

Lastly, you will love that the transformational journey only lasts about 12 months, and produces the same great results as those brace that your friends had to wear for several long years.

Now that you’ve heard all about Invisalign, what’s not to love?
