Cosmetic Dentistry Changes More Than Smiles

Picture a young woman away at college. She is self-conscious about her smile because her teeth are crooked.

This sparks an interest in dentistry and dental care, and she goes on to become a dental hygienist. She works as a hygienist for several years, while raising three children with her husband. Eventually, she returns to school and completes her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.

Today, she has been a practicing dentist for more than 30 years, and in fact, she is the leader of our team at Sunrise Dental.

If you have gotten to know Dr. Vice, it might be hard to believe that she was ever that student who was self-conscious about her smile. The thing is, that experience helped her understand the value of all aspects of dental care, including the cosmetic dentistry that we offer at all four of our locations in Raleigh, Cary, Chapel Hill, and Durham.

Keep reading to find out how our cosmetic care could help you or someone who you care about.

What Makes A Great Smile?

We realize this is a subjective question. We also realize that it may be difficult to describe even if you can envision it in your mind.

It may be helpful to thumb through a celebrity magazine or two. There’s a reason people talk about the “Hollywood” smile. It’s prevalent among people who appear on televisions and movie screens.

We could probably agree that Hollywood smiles have a few things in common. First, the teeth are straight. Second, the teeth are evenly space. Third, the teeth are bright and white.

Do you think it’s a fortunate coincidence that people who make a living in front of a camera usually have “perfect” teeth? No, it’s not.

Do you think it’s because people who are good at acting are born with great teeth? Or is it more likely that many if not most famous actors have had some cosmetic work done to their teeth?

Think about the people you are related to and the people you work with on a daily basis. How many of them have perfect teeth? Of that group, how many do you think have had some form of cosmetic dental care?

What Would You Change About Your Smile?

You should feel comfortable being yourself. If you are self-conscious about your smile, then it may make certain situations more complicated.

Fair or not, some people do judge you on your teeth. Potential employers, possible clients, and prospective dates may be distracted if something is off about your smile. Those same people may be more open to you and what you have to say if you can disarm them with a great smile.

Picture whatever you consider a perfect smile in your mind. Now, look at your own smile in the mirror. What would you want or need to change to make the image in the mirror match what you saw in your memory?

No matter what your answer is, we believe we can help with our range of cosmetic services. We can give you a smile makeover.

Here are some of the ways we can help:

  • You Could Have Straight Teeth.

A great way to do this is with Invisalign®, and the best part might be that it does not use brackets or wires like braces do. Instead, you receive a series of transparent aligners that are made of plastic.

As long as you wear them like you should, and replace them when needed, your teeth will continue moving until they are straight.

Another option would be to get veneers. If Invisalign doesn’t seem like it would work for you, then veneers can be used to make your teeth look straighter in a short amount of time.

  • You Could Have A Great White Smile.

Drinking coffee and tea, smoking, eating pasta, and just getting older can cause your teeth to look yellow and discolored. Our in-office and take-home professional teeth whitening can remove those stains so your teeth are “pearly whites” once again.

Not all discoloration issues are caused by stains, however. In those cases, veneers may be able to help, too.

  • You Could Get Rid Of Your Gummy Smile.

If you feel the need to keep your lips firmly pressed together when you smile, it could be because you have a gummy smile. This happens when parting your lips reveals more gum  tissue than teeth.

Using our dental laser, we can reshape your gums and expose more of your teeth at the same time.

How Can We Help You?

The solutions we mentioned above are just a few of the ways that cosmetic dentistry can improve your smile and maybe your self-confidence, too.
